Nordic Journalist Centre (NJC) is a non-profit organisation founded in 1957. The goal is to strengthen the development of Nordic media and journalism by organizing mid-career training and courses for journalists from all Nordic countries, based on common cultural values and the ‘Nordic media Model’. Furthermore, NJC contributes to networking activities among journalists and editors in the Nordic Region.
In a time where trust in media is in decline – also in the Nordic region – it has become even more important to support accurate, independent and critical journalism, based on Nordic values such as open society, trust and deep democracy.
By time, the perspective of NJC has expanded to include training and courses in Russia and the Baltic countries.
As executive body for Nordic Council of Ministers NJC has been project manager in Northwest Russia for about 15 years. NJC’s North-West Journalist Collaboration has two major focus areas: Journalism in a modern democracy and Neighborhood North and Northwest Russia. The Nordic Council of Ministers has secured courses, presentations, studies and efforts for continued cooperation with a special grant also covering 2019, 2020 and 2021.
